Power Apple: Armed Troops Stationed in Hangzhou for the Upcoming G20 Summit

The 11th Summit of the Leaders from the Group of Twenty Countries (G20) will be held in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province in China in two weeks. At least two motorized armed police divisions with a variety of hand-picked offensive weapons and equipment have been stationed in Hangzhou including hundreds of armored vehicles, military vehicles, and patrol helicopters, all circumnavigating the city.

FT Chinese: China’s “People’s Daily” and UK MailOnline Swap Contents – up to 40 Stories a Week

On August 15, 2016, British Financial Times Chinese published an article titled “People’s Daily and British MailOnline Share Contents.” People’s Daily is the Chinese Communist Party’s official propaganda mouthpiece. MailOnline, which is under Britain’s Daily Mail, is very popular for gossip type news and famous right-wing views (236 million unique visitors and 15.1 million daily visitors). A new partnership between People’s Daily and MailOnline has been established, which enables both papers to exchange up to 40 articles per week.

Lianyungang Government Announced It Was Suspending Site Selection for the Nuclear Waste Plant

At 18:46 p.m. on August 7, 2016, the Lianyungang Municipal Government announced on its official blog that the authorities had decided to hold off temporarily on selecting a site for the Nuclear Waste Treatment Plant

Thousands of Chinese Continue Demonstrating against a Proposed Nuclear Waste Plant

According to Hong Kong Oriental Online (http://hk.on.cc/cn/) on August 7 and 8, 2016, thousands of local residents in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, took to the streets for two consecutive days in protest of a nuclear waste treatment plant that was intended to be built there. The Public Security Bureau in Lianyungang said on its official blog that assembling without the permission of the local government is illegal. The bureau also pointed out that the project is an established national project and that it had provincial and municipal government approval. It asked the general public to “believe the government and the (Chinese Communist) Party.”

According to Caijing.com, a website about China’s finance and economics sector, the sales of all China’s milk enterprises continued to decline rapidly in the first three quarters of 2015. Even the highly profitable baby formula industry entered the “cold winter” of sales. The major reason is that Chinese consumers prefer to buy milk produced overseas.
