Key Point to Watch: Could Xi Be Positioned for 2012 Party Chairman?

On September 8, the CCP’s Politburo decided to hold the 4th Plenary Session of the CCP’s 17th Central Committee from September 15 to 18.

According to Beijing political analysts, a key point to watch is whether Politburo Standing Committee member Xi Jinping could become vice chairman of the CCP’s Military Comission. That position may pave the way for Xi to succeed Hu Jintao in the CCP’s 18th Congress in 2012.

Foundation Receives 20 Million Yuan for Overseas Chinese Language Education

On September 7, Hong Kong Agile Property Holdings, Ltd. donated 20 Million Yuan to China’s Chinese Language Education Foundation.

The Foundation was founded in 2004. Its mission was to raise funds from overseas connections to promote Chinese language education and promote cultural exchanges.

600 Hong Kong Citizens to Visit “Revolutionary Sacred Place” Jinggangshan

“Tour of the Republic — Train Ride to Jinggangshan” was inaugurated on September 4, 2009. More than 600 people will visit the Revolutionary Sacred Place Jinggangshan to review the New China’s history.

The group is to begin the tour from the Shenzhen Rail Station in the evening. They will spend two days in Jinggangshan to visit revolutionary martyr’s graves, plant memorial trees, visit children of the old Red Army soldiers, and donate to the Hope schools.

Local Transportation Director Killed by Predecessor and Mentor

Four suspects were arrested in the August 17 murder of Li Xingguang, Director of the Hegang City Transportation Department in Heilongjiang Province. After an investigation, it was found that Li’s predecessor and one time mentor, Bai Yuku, paid 300,000 yuan to have Li killed. Bai was unhappy about Li’s lack of support of his personal business interests.

Li Changchun Meets Road to Revival Production Team

On the afternoon of September 4, CCP Politburo Standing Committee member Li Changchun came to the Great Hall of the People to meet with the production team and performers of the “Road to Revival.”

According to Li, “Road to Revival,” is another powerful work in the tradition of “The East is Red” and “Song of Chinese Revolution.” It is the first large-scale music and dance epic produced in the 21st century. Li told the team that this show will help people to understand “how history and people chose Marxism and the CCP, and why only socialism can save China.”

Li Yuanchao: Safeguard Party’s Core Leadership in State-Owned Enterprises

On August 15 and 16, Li Yuanchao, CCP Politburo member and head of the CCP Central Organization Department, visited several major state-owned enterprises in Beijing. He emphasized the importance of advancing Party organization work in state-owned companies and "transforming the Party’s political advantage into the company’s scientific development advantage."

His lecturing tour includes stops at Sinopec, China Unicom, the Beijing Second Commerce Group, and the Beijing Public Transportation Group.

Supreme Court Deputy Chief Justice: Distrust in Justice System Common Among People

Sheng Deyong, Deputy Chief Justice of the China Supreme Court said, "Currently, some people distrust the justice system, and the feeling is becoming a common sentiment in society. This is a very dangerous phenomenon."

Mr. Shen made the comment at a conference held from August 10 to 14 in Beidaihe, Hebei Province.
