Huanqiu BBS: US Spends Millions to Pay Chinese Internet Spies

To counter claims by western medias on the, “China poses an Internet threat theory,” Quanqiu carried an article on its BBS sites denying that China could pose any Internet threat and counterclaiming that China has been the victim of cyber attacks by foreign countries. It also claimed that US intelligence agencies spend tens of millions of dollars every year to support a group of “Internet traitors” from China to infiltrate and instigate rebellion against China.

The article said, “Most of these Internet traitors are either losers or those without a stable income.” “They regularly visit various Chinese BBS sites and receive a fixed income from the US. … Intelligence agencies from the US or Japan hired them to publish articles to attack the Chinese government or spread rumors against us… Their topics target the government system, value concepts, or social morality. Many (democratic activists) carry extreme views against China.”

Xinhua: China Warns of Tension if Obama Meets Dalai Lama

Global Times warned the Obama Administration that there would be severe consequencies if Obama meets with the Dalai Lama when he visits the US between the end of September and mid-October this year. Global Times quoted Shi Yinhong, a professor at the School of International Studies, Remin University of China (previously known as People’s University of China) and the Director of the American Studies Center: “The meeting between German Chancellor Angela and Dalai brought about 6 months of tension in Sino-German relations and the meeting between French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Dalai brought about 4 months of tension in Sino-French relations. If Obama neglects the warnings, it will lead to at least 2 months of tension in Sino-US relations.”

Xinhua: US Walking on Socialism’s Path

Xinhua reported a saying circulating among Chinese on the Internet: "In 1949, only socialism could save China; in 1989, only China could save socialism; in 2009, only China can save capitalism." The article suggested there were many socialist factors in Obama’s reform measures. “The bankruptcy protection of GM and the reform of financial institutions reflect socialist characteristics. The government and the unions became General Motors’ largest shareholder. Therefore this company, the symbol of the spirit of American capitalism, becomes a ‘state-owned and collective enterprise’ (the form of enterprises existing in China under the theory of socialism – Ed.). The reform of US financial institutions is also like this. The U.S. wants to change the Federal Reserve into a ‘super regulator,’ to comprehensively strengthen the supervision of large financial institutions. It also plans to set up a new department of consumer financial protection, giving it more power than the current regulatory authority. This approach is consistent with Marx’s theory… Obama’s health insurance reform is more socialist than the nationalization of enterprises and the strengthening of supervision. Its purpose is to provide all Americans with affordable health insurance and the means is to establish governmental public medical insurance to compete with the private insurance industry."

Xinhua: US Wants to Regain its Loss in Southeast Asia

Xinhua reported that, according to several foreign affairs documents, the U.S. proposed to establish a new cooperative framework with four Mekong River Basin countries, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton will discuss this proposal with the foreign ministers of those countries at the ASEAN meeting in Thailand. The U.S. will also sign ASEAN’s base treaty, “Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.” All these indicate the Obama administration desires to strengthen the U.S. relationship with ASEAN, and recover the loss of influence to China over ASEAN during the Bush administration.

Xinhua quoted a Singapore researcher, “U.S. adjusts its ASEAN policy, to better ‘deal’ with Myanmar and North Korea, and also to deter other large countries (China – Ed) from increasing influence in this region.”

U.S.- Indian Policy Targets China

The International Herald Leader under Xinhua reported, when commenting on Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s announcement of a “US-India 3.0” relationship, that government think tanks have published that the U.S. is improving its relationship with India in order to contain China, .

The article of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences states, “The China factor is very obvious” in the 2005 ‘New Framework in the India-U.S. Defense Relationship’ between the United States and India. “Both countries feel an inexplicable but obvious insecurity toward the growth of China.” The article cites U.S. media on China’s building a nuclear submarine in Sanya, Hainan, Indian and western media on China’s involvement in Sri Lanka’s Hambantota Port, and on Chinese naval ships escorting merchant ships in the Indian Ocean earlier this year.

China Warns against US Protectionism

Xinhua observed that the United States is increasing trade friction with its recent WTO case against China over its export restrictions on raw materials. It is the first case during the Obama administration and the European Union is joining the United States in the action, noted Xinhua.

"As the two largest trading nations, it is normal to have trade friction. However, a series of trade frictions will damage bilateral trade relations." "Although a trade war would be a lose-lose for all, still, China should not allow the United States continue to discriminate against Chinese products."

Washington Times: The U.S. Should Confront China’s Duplicity

The Washington Times published an article by James Lyons, a retired U.S. Navy Admiral, and former commander in chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, stating that “the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has developed an extremely devious strategy to challenge U.S. strategic interest not only in the Western Pacific, but also globally.” China has built networks with countries such as North Korea, Burma, Iran, Sudan, Venezuela and Yemen – to mention but a few – all of which are hostile to the United States and other democracies. China is behind all of North Korea’s moves. China has been supplying nuclear technologies to other countries, and China has been using Iran as a proxy to support the Taliban, where China provides weapons and ammunition to Iran, which are then passed to Shi’ite militias and the Taliban. Lyons argued that the U.S. should tell China to reverse its nuclear and missile proliferation policy and should also take other measures to confront China’s duplicity.

Xinhua: U.S. Interferes with Tibet through Intelligence, Human Rights and Funding

Intelligence, human rights and economic aid are the three tactics that the U.S. uses to interfere with Tibetan affairs, stated the International Herald Leader under Xinhua on June 15, 2009. On June 10, the U.S. Congress passed House Resolution 2410 authorizing the Secretary of State to establish a Tibet Section within the United States Embassy in Beijing to follow political, economic, and social developments in Tibet. In response, Xinhua has since published a series of articles to express opposition.

The June 15 article cites U.S. military support for the Dalai Lama in terms of telecommunications, munitions and training of Tibetan rebels. The article accuses the U.S. Department of State of smearing China in its report, alleging the Chinese government infringes upon Tibet’s democracy and freedom by force. The economic aid that the U.S. provides has included annual direct funding of $2 million to Tibetan exiles since 2002 and another $300,000 from the CIA to the Dalai Lama’s government in exile.
