On January 15, 2008, five Mainland scholars issued a joint statement titled, “Declaration of the New Spring Festival Culture.” The scholars expressed in the Declaration that the Chinese Spring Festival in itself symbolizes civilization and freedom and should not be subject to any political, economic or cultural restrictions. The scholars oppose the annual Spring Festival Gala held by the State television network, China Central Televison (CCTV), since that enables the Gala to be used as a propaganda tool to glorify the Communist Party.

The Communist regime re-named the Chinese New Year as the Chinese Spring Festival after its takeover of the Mainland in 1949. Every year, CCTV has a gala as the official State celebration. The Chinese New Year begins on February 7, 2008.

Hu Jintao set forth the goal of a harmonious society at the Party’s Sixth Plenary Session held in October 2006.

The Epoch Times has obtained a copy of the first meeting minutes of the Sydney Chinese Consulate’s "The Special Anti-Falun Gong Working Group," dated February 23, 2001, from Chen Yonglin, the former Chinese Consulate official who defected from China in 2005.

Chen Yonglin, a former Chinese consulate staff member stationed in Sydney, Australia, arrived in Toronto on June 4 and is currently touring Canada. During press conferences held in Toronto and the Ottawa Parliament, he revealed how the Communist regime controls overseas Chinese communities, infiltrates the media, and sets up traps for western politicians. On June 26, 2007, China Youth Daily reported that the Central Committee, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Personnel, and the National Working Committee on Children, had executed and implemented the Young Pioneers Counselors Administration Measures (hereinafter referred to as "Measure"). [1] The Measure provides guidelines and support in building a team of Young Pioneer Counselors.

Chinese lawyers face numerous hurdles in conducting discovery for their cases. When dealing with discovery in a criminal defense, for example, lawyers worry that, when the evidence they uncover contradicts the government’s findings, the government will use Article 306 of the Criminal Law to charge them with forgery and perjury. The official Xinhua News Agency reports that Communist Party membership increased by 11,859,000 between 2002 and 2006 averaging 2.37 million per year. As of the end of 2006, Communist Party membership reportedly totaled 2.391 million, of which 14.292 million were female and 55.472 million were 35 years of age or above. According to an overseas Chinese global media, the Epoch Times, between December 3, 2004, and July 16, 2007, over 23.8 million persons quit the Communist Party, the Communist Youth League and the Young Pioneers by renouncing their membership on the web.
