Agricultural Expert Warns Grain Price Increase

He Kaiying, Agricultural expert from Anhui Province is predicting that 18 percent price increase in Agricultural commodities since the beginning of the year will cause increase in processed food products in the upcoming months. He also warns that the grain price increase might lead to the inflation in the second half of the year. According to He, the grains cost has gone up 15 percent from last year while the grain price only increased by 6 percent. Cost Benefit Ratio has dropped to 16 percent from 21 percent a year ago. The recent survey suggested that over 10 percent of the surveyed farmers will reduce grain production this year. “Reduction in grain production is a dangerous signal. The reduction could cause grain price increase and the consequence can be very serious.” He said.

Development and Reform Commission Calls For Executing Measures to Prevent Nationwide Price Increase

On April 8, Council for Rectifying Malpractice held a national conference in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The conference requested all levels of government agencies under the Development and Reform Commission as well as the price bureaus to completely follow and execute the measures developed by the central government. Peng Seng, Senior Inspector of the People’s Prosecution Service of National Development and Reform Commission, called for a need to establish a plan which will be used in response to the abnormal price fluctuation in certain region. “We need to firmly prevent the abnormal price fluctuation in small regions from growing to a nationwide price increase.” Peng said.

China Denies Betraying Iran on Nuclear Secrets

On April 2, UK’s Daily Telegraph reported that China has provided the United Nations with intelligence on Iran’s efforts to acquire nuclear technology. In an interview with Global Times, Nie Feng, International Affairs Specialist with China Academy of Social Science said that China has been providing constructive effort in solving Iran’s nuclear issues. The reports by certain western media were out of biased opinion. The speculation is nothing but a unified consensus of the western media.

PLA Daily: China is the Biggest Victim of Spyware Attacks, Mostly from US

PLA Daily claimed that China is the biggest target of spyware which mostly are from US. In a recent Annual Report of China Internet Security Report, the statistics claimed that there were 64,000 computers attacked by spyware worldwide daily and 26 percent of them took place in China. According to National Computer network Emergency Response Technical Team (CNCERT/CC), there were 220,000 spyware attacks to China from overseas in 2005 where 40 percent were from US, 11 percent from Japan, 10 percent form Taiwan, and 8 percent from Karea.

Shaolin Monks Organized to Study Key Messages from the Party Conference

On Shaolin Temple’s web page, there were two pictures posted and subtitled: “Shaolin Monks Study and Exercise the Key Messages from the Party Conference” [1]. In an interview with Xiang Li, television hostess from Hunan Television, Shi Yongxing, headmaster of Shaolin Temple told Li: “After I returned from the National People’s Congress held in Beijing, I have the responsibility to share the updates with the monks so that they are aware of the achievements made by the party in the past 5 years”. Shi denied to be called as a “Political Monk” and claimed that his action is to safeguard the rights of Buddhism and make contribution to the country. “Monks also need to pay attention to politics,” he said, “Shaolin Temple is well known around the world and the credit should go to the government’s open reform policy.

Xinhua: Stop the Irresponsible Uproar

Xinhua published a commentary article stating that the comments made by Hans-Gert Pöttering, President of the European Parliament, to boycott Beijing Olympic is sheer nonsense, extremely irresponsible and represent only a few western biased views which will have no effect. “This kind of unpopular statement will hurt the feelings of 1.3 billion Chinese people and place itself on the opposing side of a quarter of world’s population”, it said. “People who make this kind of statement are carrying cold-war mentality and ignoring the stability, development and prosperity China has made. They only want to smear and criticize China , which has reflected their own arrogance and ignorance.”

Xinhua: China Gained Wide Range of International Support On Measures Taken in Lhasa

On March 28, Xinhua posted an article titled: “Legal Measures Taken by The Administration of Tibet Autonomous Region in Handling Serious Criminal Act in Lhasa Gained Wide Range of Understanding and Support from the International Community.” It claimed that so far there have been 120 countries and international organizations showed support to the righteous actions China has taken. It listed Thailand, Burma, Timor-Leste, Qatar, Central African Republic, Algeria, Columbia, Chile, Peru, and Bosnia-Herzegovina as the ones that recently showed their support.

Bangladesh Hosts Expo on Chinese Universities

On March 25th, the Third China Educational Expo was held in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. The participants came from 19 universities in China including Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The aim of the exhibit was to assist Bangladeshis in further understanding the current system of college education in China and how they might attend universities in China for their college education.
