Hiding Information: Fox News’ Interview with Yan Li-Meng Revealed China Knew about Person-to-Person Transmission in December 2019

On July 10, Fox News published an exclusive interview with Dr. Li-Meng Yan, who specialized in virology and immunology at the School of Public Health, University of Hong Kong. The lab that Dr. Yan worked at is a World Health Organization (WHO) reference laboratory specializing in influenza viruses and pandemics.

Dr. Yan managed to leave Hong Kong on April 27, 2020 and came to the U.S. to inform the world that the Chinese government knew, as early as late December 2019, that the coronavirus could be transmitted from person to person.

She feared that, if she tried to tell her story in China, she “would be disappeared and killed.”

Dr. Yan said that, at the end of December 2019, Dr. Leo Poon, her supervisor at the University/WHO reference lab, asked her to look into the odd cluster of SARS-like cases coming out of mainland China. The Chinese government didn’t provide information to overseas experts, including those in Hong Kong. So, she turned to her network of professional contacts in various medical facilities in mainland China since she grew up and completed most of her studies there.

One friend, a scientist at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in China, had first-hand knowledge of the cases and told her on December 31, 2019, about human-to-human transmission.

She reported some of these early findings to her boss Dr. Poon.

A few days later, on Jan. 9, 2020, the WHO put out a statement: “According to Chinese authorities, the virus in question can cause severe illness in some patients and does not transmit readily between people… There is limited information to determine the overall risk of this reported cluster.”

Dr. Yan said she and her colleagues across China discussed the peculiar virus in the earlier days, but she soon noted a sharp shift in tone. Doctors in Wuhan went silent and others said not to ask them details.

According to Dr. Yan, the doctors said, ominously, “We can’t talk about it, but we need to wear masks.'”

“There are many, many patients who don’t get treatment on time or receive diagnosis on time,” Dr. Yan said. “Hospital doctors are scared, but they cannot talk. CDC staff members are scared.”

Dr. Yan said she reported her findings to Dr. Poon again on January 16, 2020.

He told her “to keep silent and be careful.” “Don’t touch the red line… We will get in trouble and we’ll be disappeared.”

Dr. Yan said Professor Malik Peiris, the co-director of a WHO-affiliated lab, knew but didn’t do anything about it.

The WHO website lists Professor Peiris as an “adviser” on the WHO International Health Regulations Emergency Committee for Pneumonia due to the Novel Coronavirus 2019-nCoV.

World Outbreak: Iran President Said 25 Million Iranians Infected with Coronavirus

On July 18, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani said that 25 million people in Iran have been infected with the novel coronavirus. The government is concerned that another 30 to 35 million people might soon get infected as well. He also stated that, with 25 percent of the population being infected, the country still cannot reach the state of social immunity. This seems to imply that the Iranian government wants to use social immunity to fight the virus.

Alireza Moezi, the Deputy Director of the Communication Affairs of the President’s Office explained in a Tweet that the 25 million people Rouhani mentioned are those who have been infected and become immune.

Iran has 80 million people.

Infection Count: WHO Called Beijing Infection a Major Event

The World Health Organization (WHO) is used to be supportive and to provide a cover-up for Beijing in its handling of the coronavirus. Recently, it showed a different position from Beijing.

The WHO held a press conference in Geneva on June 16. It mentioned that Beijing has newly confirmed over 100 infection cases and the WHO said it was a major event. A Chinese media asked, since today France and Germany have an open border between the two countries, either country has several hundred new infection cases every day. Some states in the U.S. also have many infection cases. Why, when China has over 100 cases, does it get so much high attention?

Michael J Ryan, Executive Director of the Health Emergencies Program at WHO, replied that each country has its own situation. Since Beijing hadn’t gotten new cases for 50 days, in this context, it is a major event. There are many countries that still have many cases. Besides closely monitoring the situation, the WHO wishes China would share the genome information.

Diplomacy: Chinese Consulates Work on “Mask Diplomacy” in the U.S.

NBC reported that China has carried out a “mask diplomacy” strategy around the world, burnishing its reputation through the use of massive donations of protective equipment and ventilators. In the U.S., all five Chinese Consulates, including the Chinese Embassy in the U.S., have worked on such donations in exchange for the recipients’ showing appreciation to Beijing.

Critics say that, while the communities receiving the donations genuinely need them, they come with strings attached in the form of propaganda value for China’s government. Chinese state-run media outlets cover these events to showcase China’s generosity toward the struggling communities.

Two senior U.S. officials said the U.S. government has long been concerned about the political activities of the Chinese consulates in that they target local communities and their leaders with propaganda.

Infection Count: Beijing Raised Its Public Health Emergency Response Level to II

Beijing has become the new Coronavirus pandemic center in China. The following are some recent developments in Beijing:

1, 2, 3: Between June 11 and June 15, Beijing reported 106 confirmed infection cases. There was 1 case on June 11, 6 cases on June 12, 36 cases on June 13, 36 cases on June 14, and 27 cases on June 15. (Beijing Municipal Health Commission website)

{Editor’s note: Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is known for hiding infection information, the actual number could be higher than the figure the government released.}

4: Nine districts in Beijing have reported infection cases. Three provinces also reported infection cases as a result of transmissions from Beijing patients, including Hebei (3 cases), Liaoning (2 cases), and Sichuan (1 case).

On June 16, the Beijing government announced it would raise its public health emergency response level from level III to level II. (China News Agency)

5: A medical staff member working in an emergency room in a Beijing hospital revealed to Radio Free Asia, that hospitals in Beijing have received information from the authorities that a massive outbreak is likely to occur in one to two weeks. A medical service provider said that the population of people who might have been exposed to the virus is large: In the past two weeks, over 100,000 people had been to Xinfadi, which was said to be the origin of this round of infections; these people are considered t have had close contact with the infected patients. Furthermore, there are an additional several hundred thousand people who had contact with the first group of 100,000 people. (Radio Free Asia)

6: Fengtai District, Beijing declared a rumor as a message: Tens of thousands of people from Xinfadi were transported to Tangshan City, Hebei Province for quarantine. The authorities gave the correct information: Since June 14, nearly ten thousand people working in Xinfadi have been transported to several districts in Beijing for “centralized observation” (a euphemism for quarantine). (QQ)

7: After raising its public health emergency response level to level II, Beijing has prohibited people connected to Xinfadi or who live in the vicinity of the areas with high infection risks from leaving the city. All schools, from kindergartens all the way to universities will stop school starting June 17.  (Beijing News)

Medical Supplies: A Fake Medical Products Company Serves Over 1300 Chinese Medical Equipment Suppliers

During the coronavirus pandemic, over 1,300 Chinese medical equipment companies have used the same agency company, which seems to be a fake company in the U.S.

The agency company, CCTC Service Inc., said to be registered in Delaware, uses the address of a three-bedroom house in Wilmington, Delaware. However, neither the renters nor the landlord of the house said they had heard of CCTC or any Chinese company. The Delaware database of companies did not contain this company’s name.

In June, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against a Chinese company King Year Printing and Packaging Co. Ltd., for selling about 500,000 problematic face masks to the U.S. with counterfeit certification and for submitting false registration information to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). CCTC is the agency company for King Year. The Department of Justice’s filing said that CCTC didn’t return its email inquiry and that it had reason to believe that CCTC is a fabricated company.

CCTC is owned by a company called “Shenzhen CCT Testing Technology Co., Ltd.” It is headquartered in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, China. The company charges each Chinese medical equipment supplier 5,000 yuan (US $705) to represent them to register face mask products with the FDA.

Shenzhen CCT Testing Technology registered a new agency company called CCTC Services United, Inc. with the State of Colorado on May 13. However, Shenzhen CCT Testing Technology started using the new agency company for business in March, two months before registering it. There is also an issue with the new company. Its address is a post office box, which the FDA does not allow.

Infection Count: Beijing Is Suffering Coronavirus Infections

Coronavirus infections have occurred in Beijing. The city is exercising a “wartime” mechanism in some parts of the city. Several provinces and cities warned their residents not to go to Beijing.

1. China’s National Health Commission reported one coronavirus infection case in Beijing on June 11 and another six on June 12. Most of the infection cases were traced back to the Xinfadi agricultural products wholesale market in Fengtai District, Beijing. Authorities conducted a nucleic acid test on 1,940 people working in the agricultural products wholesale fields. Out of the 517 test samples from the Xinfadi wholesale market, an additional 45 people tested positive.

Fengtai District started a “wartime” mechanism. It locked down 11 residential communities with people watching the entrance around the clock, discontinued schooling for 3 elementary schools and 6 kindergartens in the vicinity of the Xinfadi wholesale market, conducted traffic control at the Xinfadi exit from the highway, and blocked several streets next to the market.

Liaoning Province reported 2 asymptomatic infection cases on June 12. Both victims had close contact with the confirmed patients in Beijing. (Radio France International)

2. On June 13 and 14, Qian’an City in Hebei Province, Tongliao City in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Binhai District of Tianjin City, Liaoning Province, Suzhou City in Jiangsu Province, Luliang City in Shanxi Province, and both Daqing and Harbin Cities in Heilongjiang Province issued warnings or directly stated that residents should avoid traveling to Beijing unless the trip is absolutely necessary.
