China’s Supreme Court: Judiciary must follow the Party Line

The President of the Supreme People’s Court, Wang Shengjun, recently called upon judges to conduct trials in the best overall interest of the Party and the State, “to seek the optimal solutions that will adequately dispose of the case” and “to safeguard the authority and dignity of socialism.” Judges “must uphold the unity of legal and social effects.” Wang predicted an increase in the number of high profile criminal cases in the near future.
