Xi Jinping’s China Dream

The “China Dream,” or “Chinese Dream” as some others have translated it, is currently the most fashionable term in China’s media. When Xi Jinping was formally “approved” as China’s president at the National People’s Congress (NPC) last Sunday, he used the “China Dream” as the main theme in his NPC keynote speech. Xi repeatedly stated the term “China Dream,” using it on nine occasions and vowed to lead the nation to realize the “China Dream.”

Dai Xu: The United States Has Launched a Cyber War against China

[Editor’s Note: Dai Xu, the Director of the Marine Security and Cooperation Research Institute, is an Air Force Colonel who is well known for his anti-American Hawk statements. He is frequently invited to give lectures to different groups around China. Such lectures often serve as "political or nationalistic education" for the younger generations and particularly for students in military schools. Dai has attracted a sizable base of Internet followers due to his extreme nationalistic talk which is highly promoted by China’s state-run media. He also is said to be well regarded among the leaders of the Central Military Commission. Dai holds that the United States fabricated that hacking emanated from China’s military headquarters and that, furthermore, the U.S. is waging a "cultural war" throughout the world to spread "American values." The following is a translation of his recent article on the cyber war between the U.S. and China.]

U.S. Uses Its Hegemonic Position to Gain US$7 Trillion in Dividends in 2011, Nearly Half from China

On January 8, 2013, the National Health Study Group of the Chinese Academy of Sciences issued a "National Health Report." The report declared that the U.S. gained a total of US$7.39609 trillion in dividends in 2011 as a result of its hegemonic position in the world. That amount is 96.8 percent of such dividends for the entire world. China is the biggest loser; it lost a total of US$3.6634 trillion, which is 47.9 percent of the total. The report also calculated that the dividend resulting from the U.S. hegemonic position is as high as 52.38 percent of its GDP, i.e. 52.38 percent of the U.S. GDP was obtained as a result of its hegemony. In the report, hegemonic dividend is defined as the dividend the hegemonic nation gains through directly or indirectly accruing profits through its position as a monopoly and through its established hegemonic system throughout the the world.

The report also asserted that 60 percent of Chinese laborers’ working hours were spent working for free for monopoly capital, thus creating "extra value" for them.

Huanqiu: Japan and U.S. Jointly Deal with China’s Surveillance of the Diaoyu Islands

China’s state media Huanqiu reported that Japan and the U.S. have reached an agreement that they would jointly cope with Chinese ships and airplanes entering the sea around the Diaoyu Islands. Japan released the news unilaterally. The report stated that the agreement was reached when Japan’s Defense Minister called on the U.S. Secretary of Defense. Japan promised that it would completely cooperate with the U.S.’s new Asia Pacific security strategy. It said that Japan views the enhancement of the Japan-U.S. alliance as an important weapon to deal with conflicts with its neighboring countries.

Xinhua: The U.S. Senate Complicates the Diaoyu Islands Issue to Deter China

[Editor’s Note: In a recent article, Xinhua reported that the U.S. Senate added an amendment to its National Defense Authorization Bill for Fiscal Year 2013, stating that, while the United States took no position on the sovereignty of the Senkaku Islands (called the Diaoyu Islands in China), it acknowledged that Japan had administrative authority over them. Xinhua collected and reviewed many of its recent reports on the Diaoyu Islands. In the article it criticized the U.S. Senate for making a wrong decision and claimed that “the U.S. is the controlling hand behind the scenes on the Diaoyu Islands issue.” It further alleged that the U.S. wants to “use the Diaoyu Islands to distract and interfere with China’s strategic focus in order to deter China’s rise.” The following is a translation of excerpts from the article.] [1]

Can Xi Cross the River by Feeling the Stones?

China’s most notable “change” in recent history dates back to 1978 when Deng Xiaoping ascended to power and initiated the “reform and opening up” policy. Deng, unsure of how to proceed, used an experiment famously known as "crossing the river by feeling the stones" (“摸着石头过河): partial reform composed of economic liberalization and political conservatism. Since then, China has been “feeling the stones” for more than 30 years.
