China’s Investment Created over 10,000 Job Opportunities for Zambia

Xinhua quoted a report by Zambia Time on October 6 claiming that Chinese companies has invested in more than 140 programs in Zambia and created 11,000 jobs for the local residents. China has become the biggest source of foreign investment for the country. China’s investment in Zambia covers a broad area, mostly on agriculture, machinery, mining, and tourism.

Official Media Denies the Existence of a Special Food Supply Center for the Central Government

The China News Agency posted a news article on its website claiming that the existence of a “Special Food Supply Center for the Central Government” is a rumor. The claim is based on an interview with a leader from the Senior Official’s Recreation Center affiliated with the State Council. The name the leader is not given. The leader says that there is no “Special Food Supply Center for the Central Government of the State Council.” The statement is in response to an article circulating on the Internet–“Speech of Director Zhu Yonglan at the Awarding Ceremony of Special Food Products for Central Government.” The leader quoted in the article also claimed that there is no such person as “Zhu Yonglan.” Internet users had posted pictures of the award ceremony and Zhu Yonglan speaking at the ceremony on the Internet (peacehall.com/forum/200809/boxun2008b/7795.shtml).

Hu Jintao Emphasizes Resolutely Holding the Banner of Chinese Socialism at Politburo Group Study

Chinese Communist Party Central Politburo conducted 2008’s eighth group study for the Politburo on September 28. The agenda was focused on the study of Chinese-style socialist theoretical system. Hu Jintao chaired the study. Hu emphasized that in today’s China, continuing Chinese-style socialist theoretical system is truly following Marxism. Hu pointed out that the Party committees at all levels must use the Chinese-style socialist theoretical system to arm the Party and educate the people, take the work as a long term task and frequent event, and implement the work systematically. Central Party School professor Yan Shuhan and professor Qin Xuan also lectured in the group study.

Top Aviation Exec: Remember the National Humiliation, Develop Domestic Big Airplane

Xinhua posted a news article published by the China Youth Daily on September 22 about China’s ambition to develop big airplanes. The article quoted China Aviation Industry Corporation (CAIC) General Manager Zuo Fengmin’s words as motivation: “When the United States bombed our embassy in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, the victims’ bodies were transported back home by a big airplane made in the U.S. It was a huge humiliation for our country’s aviation industry.” The article concluded that if China is to realize industrial advancement and high national stature, improving the aviation industry is a task that must be accomplished; and 2008 is a pivotal year for China’s home-made big airplane to be ready to take off.

Deputy County Mayor Position Attracts 65 Ph.D. Applicants

In an open job fair to select the deputy county mayor and public deputy commune director in charge of science and technology in Zhenzhou city of Henan Province, Shan Men Xia Municipality planned to hire a Ph.D. graduate specializing in administration of industrial economy as its deputy county mayor. The advertisement attracted 65 Ph.D. applicants to compete for the position. Such results were beyong expectations. In explaining the phenomenon, one author had commented: “For an ordinary person starting at a lower level, reaching such a position would take years of hard work. Whereas someone with a Ph.D. who jumps to the position, not only realizes the dream of ‘being a government officer,’ but also the dream of ‘making money.’ It is really a good deal.”

China and India Media Exchange Words over Nuclear Issues

Recently, Xinhua published several articles about India media’s attack on China. The issue seems to be originated from the conflict of both countries on the Nuclear Suppliers Group’s decision to lift the ban on India’s nuclear application for civil use. India believes that China is supporting India’s nuclear opponent Pakistan. On September 12, a Xinhua article says “India media again talk nonsense, saying giant China dragon is making people sick.” The article quoted words from Times of India “We can only know who is our true friend at difficult times” and India’s Economic Times “This disgusting giant dragon wants to get exchange for the mother of nuclear dissemination (Pakistan).”

Pakistan Imports over 100 Fighter Planes from China

Xinhua reports that Pakistan air force will soon sign an agreement with China to import fighter airplanes. The agreement includes a plan to imports 42 JF-17 fighter planes in the near term. Eight of them has already arrived Pakistan for test and evaluation. It is said that Pakistan air force ordered 150 JF-17 with a possibility of increasing the order to 250-300. The agreement also includes a plan to import 36 FC-20 multipurpose fighter planes from China and 18 F-16 from the United States. When the whole plan is realized, Pakistan’s air force will have an absolute advantage in South Asia. China’s fighter planes will be the main part of Pakistan’s air force.

Hong Kong Phoenix TV commentator He Liangliang published an article in Xinhua’s newspaper International Herald Tribune under the title “Using Lawsuits to Attack the Foreign Media Making Fake News, Threaten the Media Defaming China.” He believes no matter whether (China) wins or loses the lawsuit, it will be sufficient to threaten and shock the Western media who think they will pay no price to defaming China.
