Li Changchun Meets Road to Revival Production Team

On the afternoon of September 4, CCP Politburo Standing Committee member Li Changchun came to the Great Hall of the People to meet with the production team and performers of the “Road to Revival.”

According to Li, “Road to Revival,” is another powerful work in the tradition of “The East is Red” and “Song of Chinese Revolution.” It is the first large-scale music and dance epic produced in the 21st century. Li told the team that this show will help people to understand “how history and people chose Marxism and the CCP, and why only socialism can save China.”

Xinhua and Bank of China Tie Knot

Xinhua News Agency and the Bank of China signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement on August 31, 2009. Under the agreement, the cooperative effort will encompass the establishment of a platform for financial information and corporate, as well as personal, financial services. Lu Wei, vice-president of Xinhua stated that the cooperation is a strategic move to ensure national economic security and enhance the financial competitiveness of the State.

Thousands of Presidents of Lower Courts Attend Training on Social Unrest

Class opened for the first group of presidents of lower courts on September 1, 2009, at the National Judges College in Beijing. 235 of them will undergo intensive training in the next two weeks on domestic and international politics and economic situations. The “Curriculum has been developed to include special forums and seminars on how to deal with sudden incidents and social unrest.” In the next 12 months, there will be 15 two-week classes, each with 230 attendees to train a total of 3,500 presidents of lowers courts.

China’s Supreme Court: Judiciary must follow the Party Line

The President of the Supreme People’s Court, Wang Shengjun, recently called upon judges to conduct trials in the best overall interest of the Party and the State, “to seek the optimal solutions that will adequately dispose of the case” and “to safeguard the authority and dignity of socialism.” Judges “must uphold the unity of legal and social effects.” Wang predicted an increase in the number of high profile criminal cases in the near future.

The Fifteenth Confucius Institute Opened in South Korea

The opening ceremony for the Confucius Institute at the University of Incheon was held on August 28, Xinhua reported. This institute was established through a joint venture between the University of Incheon and Dalian University of Foreign Languages (Liaoning Province). It is the fifteenth Confucius Institute in South Korea. The first one was opened in 2004.

Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council: Strongly Oppose the Dalai Lama’s Visit to Taiwan

On August 27, the spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council commented on the invitation some Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) members made for the Dalai Lama to visit Taiwan: The “Dalai Lama is not a pure religious person. He has been continuously using the religion umbrella to try to separate China. Whatever format or status that he uses to visit Taiwan, we will strongly oppose.”

The spokesperson also mentioned that people on both sides of the straight are opposed to this evil attempt to damage the good relationship established because of China’s support for Taiwan’s reconstruction after the Typhoon disaster.

Public Security Organizations Undertaking Gun Safety Control Review

Xinhua reported that the public security organizations at the provincial, municipal, and local levels are embarking on a large-scale review of gun safety control. This review commenced on August 1 and is under the direction of the Ministry of Public Security. The review will examine the processes of carrying, managing, and storing firearms and ammunition. (Ed: The Ministry of Public Security has recently started a nationwide campaign to crack down on the mafia and vicious forces in China. Some of these underground groups have guns although the government controls their distribution.)

Meng Jianzhu: Model Cops Can Serve as Examples to Inspire Loyalty to the Party

Xinhua News reported on August 24 that Meng Jianzhu, State Councilor and Minister of Public Security said, when he was visiting a wounded police officer, that model police officers are setting examples of the right political position and maintaining loyalty to the Party. He suggested that the government should take good care of the families of those who have risked their lives to protect the people and the Party, and that it is important to establish a safeguard system for police officers’ careers. That will encourage police officers to better fulfill the mission assigned by the Party and the people.
