CNA: Freedom in Taiwan Ranked Number Two in Asia

Primary Taiwanese news agency Central News Agency (CNA) recently reported that international human rights organization Freedom House just released its annual report “Freedom in the World in 2025.” Taiwan’s freedom ranking (94 points) in Asia is second only to Japan (96 points). Freedom House has released its Global Freedom Report for 52 years in a row, which evaluates the civil political rights and freedoms of 195 countries and 13 regions around the world.

The report notes that over the past year, violence and the crackdown on political opponents during the election period, the continuous armed conflicts and the disintegration of authoritarian practices have led to a decline in global freedom in 2024 for 19 years. People in 60 countries face lower political rights and civil liberties, and only 34 countries have improved.

The report indicated that Finland scored 100 points (full score), ranking first in the world. China scored a total of 9 points, the same score as in previous year, and was once again listed as an “unfree” country. Hong Kong scored only 40 points in total, and it is listed as a “partial freedom” region.
