Russian state-owned news agency Sputnik News recently published an article on nuclear energy cooperation between China and Saudi Arabia. Below are key excerpts from the article:
The first China-Gulf Cooperation Council Forum on Peaceful Use of Nuclear Technology was held in China on April 21. During the forum, China and Saudi Arabia’s Nuclear and Radiation Regulatory Commission signed a “Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Nuclear Energy Development Safety and Security.”
The agreement establishes that both parties will strengthen cooperation in nuclear safety, nuclear security, nuclear non-proliferation, and nuclear emergency response through various initiatives including personnel exchanges, training programs, technical assistance, and the establishment of joint working groups.
In recent years, China has developed close cooperation with Gulf Arab countries in nuclear energy and nuclear technology applications. In the nuclear energy sector, China has engaged in practical exchanges and cooperation with the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia in areas such as nuclear power operation and maintenance, nuclear fuel supply, uranium and thorium resource exploration, and nuclear safety and security.
In terms of nuclear technology, Chinese radiation detection equipment for security inspections has been exported in bulk to Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and other countries, and has been implemented on a large scale during major events.
