Russian News Agency Sputnik reported that the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala stated that a joint cybersecurity assessment conducted by the Guatemalan government and the U.S. military Southern Command revealed that the Guatemalan Foreign Ministry’s information systems had been hacked by actors originating from China.
The U.S. embassy emphasized that the U.S. is committed to supporting Guatemala in addressing global threats and enhancing its digital infrastructure to promote regional prosperity.
Guatemalan authorities have yet issued any official comment regarding the alleged involvement of Chinese hackers in the incident.
