Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration (CGA) released a statement saying that the Taichung patrol vessel and Patrol Ship No. 9 detected a Chinese fishing boat, “Yue Shen Shan Yu 11366,” illegally entering Taiwan’s Dongsha maritime area on May 3rd during a patrol mission in the Dongsha (Pratas Islands) waters. The Taichung vessel used water cannons to forcefully expel the mainland Chinese vessel from Taiwan’s waters. Currently, there are no other Chinese vessels trespassing in the area, the coast guard stated.
The CGA emphasized its “firm commitment to safeguarding Taiwan’s sovereignty.” To “protect the precious marine resources of the Dongsha region,” it has stationed large patrol ships in the area. Along with Dongsha’s multifunctional patrol boats, the CGA maintains a 24/7 presence to “monitor Chinese vessel activity closely, defend national sovereignty, and ensure the sustainable development of the region’s marine resources.”
