In 2013 Huanqiu conducted an online survey among people over 18 years of age in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Xi’an, Changsha, and Shenyang. Of the respondents, 53.1 percent were still basking in the belief that the relationship between China and the U.S. is one of allies or friends. Countless facts, however, show that the current Sino-U.S. relationship is just one of embarrassment between fake friends. In fact, they are competitors. If [we] do not take effective measures to let the U.S. stop in front of the cliff, then in the future, the U.S. will certainly become an adversary of China.
Getting a picture of Sino-U.S. relations by looking at one month
On April 7, 2014, U.S. Secretary of Defense Hagel said to the media during his first visit to China that the U.S. and China are both friends and competitors, but certainly not enemies.
Just three days later, however, Marine force commander Wissler of the U.S., who was stationed in Okinawa, greatly weakened Hagel’s praise. He said that if China were to occupy the Diaoyu Islands, the U.S. Marines stationed in the Pacific Ocean could fully regain the islands.
Then on April 23, when the U.S. President visited Japan, he made it clear for the first time that “the U.S.-Japan Security Treaty,” applies to the issue of the Diaoyu Islands, totally ignoring the fact that the Diaoyu Islands are China’s inherent territory. People can get to know just how hypocritical Hagel is by looking back at what he said on April 7.
From April 7 to 23, a period of less than a month, America showed its own hypocritical face through practical action. At the same time, this also fully exposed the true attitude of the U.S. towards China.
The embarrassment of being fake friends on the surface
The U.S. troops have been surreptitiously attempting to discredit and even humiliate the Chinese army. Once, in the 1990s, in a Chinese military exercise on the southeast coast, America did something stealthily to the GPS that China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) used, causing problems in the exercise.
The U.S. military has never stopped accusing the PLA. Last December 19, when a U.S. missile cruiser was monitoring the activities of China’s aircraft carrier Liaoning ship in the doorway to China, Chinese amphibious warships were ordered to forcibly stop the U.S. cruiser. The U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel did not feel ashamed of the U.S. military action. On the contrary, he condemned China for being irresponsible. The U.S. oversight and interference with ships of other countries seemed very normal. In his eyes, it was the right thing to do.
These things did not affect Hagel as the first foreigner to board our Liaoning Ship. Sino-U.S. military episodes go on continuously, but it does not affect the communication between the two countries. During October and November in 2009, the U.S. allowed Chinese officials to visit the U.S. Strategic Command Center. On January 12, 2010, the U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates also was invited to visit our Command Center of the Second Artillery Corps.
The two armed forces seemed to be in a “honeymoon” phase, but Gates wrote in his memoirs afterwards that he felt “greatly insulted” because of the J-20 test flight. [3] To some extent, this reflects the true feelings of the U.S. towards China.
China is regarded as a strong competitor of America
America would rather suffer than reduce restrictions on its exports of high technology to China. It continues to block European weapons sales to China. Even when China was selling its HQ-9 missile to Turkey, it also used all its power to wreck the deal. In recent years, Israel has been withstanding the U.S.’s heavy pressure and has become one of the major countries to help China modernize its weapons and equipment. It has provided some support to China by using its capacity to manufacture multi-purpose fighter aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, and cruise missiles.
The above are just a few examples of how China’s strategic industries have been squeezed. Therefore, Chinese strategic industries have frequently accomplished [Chinese] miracles in “breaking the control of foreign monopolies.” In the defense exhibition held recently in Malaysia, Chinese enterprises demonstrated the “C4KISR” solution, which was able to pull the national armed forces into the era of information warfare. The U.S. media were stunned.
Deep in its heart, the U.S. has long regarded China as a future rival
Once the world learns that the “American Dream” is no longer the best choice, the “China Dream” will become the model for the world to follow. Then America’s power to lead the discourse right will collapse. The decline of the Empire of America will accelerate. For this reason, the U.S. must suppress this potential rival, even if it means to fragment Asia and turn it into a battlefield.
Therefore, for the first time in more than 40 years, the U.S. has begun to condone Japan’s military expansion. It has totally forgotten the frightening battle between the U.S. and Japan that took place years ago.
Thus, the current U.S. president has, for the first time, expressed support for Japan to exercise collective self-defense. The Wall Street Journal commented that, in theory, this change will make the Japanese capable of shooting down North Korean missiles that attack the U.S. or shooting a Chinese cruiser in a fierce battle with Australia. Furthermore, Japan will have greater flexibility in the conflicts of the East China Sea islands.
Therefore, the Philippine side has orchestrated a farce. It sends soldiers in fishing boats to mandatorily break the blockade of Chinese maritime police, to provide personnel rotations and materials to supply the abandoned ship on Second Thomas Shoal. The U.S. has not only had no objection, but has accused the Chinese side of being an obstacle and of using “provocative and destabilizing behavior.” They seem to have forgotten that this is Chinese territory.
Indian media reported that U.S. Air Force fighters are preparing to deploy in India. Once the deployment is successful, China’s western regions may also be “completely exposed” in front of the U.S.
Forget that potential war is dangerous; fight to prevent war taking place
The U.S. military’s tentacles extend continuously around China: to the east in Japan and South Korea, to the south in Thailand and Singapore, and to the west in Afghanistan. The U.S. strategic encirclement of China is constantly advancing. Japanese Prime Minister Abe is determined to hold to the so-called “arc of freedom and prosperity” strategic security concept. When the recovery of the sluggish Japanese economy is hopeless, he is taking the interruption of China’s third modernization process as a high priority and is cooperating with the U.S. to encircle China from South and East Asia.
The development of the third world war seems to have been placed right in front of us. We cannot afford to wait until the enemy starts firing on us. Fake friends, once they reveal their face, will be true rivals, so we must be fully prepared to fight the bitter and hard war ahead.
