Xinhua: Kim Jong-un Willing to Engage with U.S. if It Abandons Denuclearization Demand

Xinhua News Agency reported that, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the 13th Session of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly of North Korea was held in Pyongyang on September 20–21. At the meeting, Kim Jong-un stated that if the United States abandons its insistence on North Korea’s denuclearization, acknowledges reality, and genuinely seeks peaceful coexistence, Pyongyang would have no reason to refuse face-to-face talks with Washington. However, Kim stressed that North Korea would never give up its nuclear weapons.

He further said that although the new U.S. and South Korean governments are open to dialogue and seek to improve relations, their fundamental aim to weaken North Korea’s power and overthrow its system will never change. Kim emphasized that relying on strong power to ensure security and preserve peace remains North Korea’s unchanging choice.

In his speech, Kim also noted that he still holds “good memories” of former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Regarding inter-Korean relations, Kim declared that North Korea “will neither sit down face-to-face with South Korea nor work together on anything.”
