On September 23, the Turkish Embassy in China announced on its official Weibo, X, and Facebook accounts that Ambassador Selçuk Ünal paid a courtesy visit to Hu Haifeng, Vice Minister of China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs. According to the statement, the two sides exchanged views on enhancing bilateral cooperation. The posts included photos showing Ambassador Ünal visiting Hu’s office and presenting him with a gift.
Hu Haifeng is the son of former Chinese leader Hu Jintao.
Public records indicate that Ünal only recently assumed his post, having presented a copy of his credentials to China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on August 1.
Analysts observed that the visit was unusual, as Hu Haifeng is the fourth-ranking vice minister of a department with no direct connection to diplomacy. They suggested the move was more symbolic and aimed at Hu Jintao.
