Rapid Rise of Pediatric Organ Transplants in China Raises Ethical Concerns

Over the past decade, China has seen a sharp increase in pediatric organ transplants. Leading hospitals claim to have completed thousands of liver transplants for children, with some provincial centers boasting “multiple same-day” pediatric surgeries. Regulatory authorities have also approved pediatric-specific immunosuppressants. In contrast to the global scarcity of child organ donors, China often claims short waiting times and abundant donors.

The World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG) published an in-depth investigation, raising a critical question: Where are these organs coming from?

Key Findings:

  1. Surge in Transplant Numbers
    • Shanghai’s Renji Hospital alone claims over 3,000 pediatric liver transplants, asserting the highest annual volumes globally.
    • By comparison, the U.S. performs about 500–600 pediatric liver transplants annually.
    • Such rapid growth in China reflects not only technical advances but also unusually high organ availability.
  2. Unusual Donor Patterns
    • Extremely short waiting times and “multiple same-day” surgeries (e.g., Wuhan Union Hospital’s three pediatric heart transplants in one day) defy global norms, raising questions about donor source coordination.
    • Promotions offering “free pediatric liver transplants” in Jilin Province suggest unusually high donor availability.
    • Publicized organ procurement fee schedules in some provinces raise concerns about the emergence of an organ market.
  3. Ethical Concerns Over Pediatric and Infant Donors
    • Academic reports include transplanting kidneys from infants (<1 year old) to adults or young recipients.
    • Reports of very low-weight, very young donors have drawn scrutiny from overseas neonatal experts, particularly regarding withdrawal of life support and brain death determinations.
    • While infant organs have biological advantages, a lack of regulatory oversight raises severe ethical risks, including potential organ trafficking.
  4. High-Level Projects and Political Context
    • Reports have emerged about the “981 Project” and other longevity initiatives linked to China’s senior political and military officials, suggesting multi-organ transplants for life extension. Xi Jinping reportedly acknowledged such practices in public remarks in 2025.

Conclusion
China’s rapid expansion of pediatric organ transplantation represents a clinical advance but a step backward in governance and transparency. The lack of clear oversight of donor sources creates grave ethical risks, especially for vulnerable children and infants. Independent, third-party verification is essential to prevent abuse, stop illegal trafficking, and ensure that the growth and commercialization of pediatric organ transplants adhere to moral and legal boundaries.

China’s J-15T, J-35, and KJ-600 Complete First Catapult Launches and Landings on Aircraft Carrier

Xinhua News Agency reported that China’s J-15T, J-35, and KJ-600 carrier-based aircraft have successfully completed their first catapult-assisted takeoff and landing training on the Fujian aircraft carrier. In earlier test missions, naval pilots flew these aircraft to achieve successful takeoffs and landings, confirming the strong compatibility between China’s domestically developed electromagnetic catapult and arresting systems and various aircraft models. This achievement marks the Fujian’s initial capability for full-deck operations and lays a solid foundation for integrating different carrier-based aircraft into carrier strike groups.

Since commencing its first sea trials in May 2024, the Fujian has been steadily conducting planned maritime tests, advancing smoothly in equipment debugging and overall operational stability assessments.

Investigation Reveals CCP Establishes Covert Party Branches on U.S. University Campuses

A Daily Caller News Foundation (DCNF) investigation has found that Chinese Communist Party (CCP) members studying at U.S. universities have established overseas CCP party branches on campus, supported by their home institutions in China. These branches exist without official registration at the universities and have been identified at Oklahoma State University (OSU), University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL), and University of Colorado–Denver (UCD). They are linked to Chinese universities such as Northwest A&F University (NWAFU) and China Agricultural University (CAU). Over twenty CCP members are confirmed to be involved, with some continuing graduate studies at other U.S. universities, raising concerns about foreign influence and national security.

These overseas branches operate under CCP policy, which requires a branch wherever three or more party members are present. NWAFU’s “3+1” program at UNL, for example, sends Chinese students to study in the U.S. and has been used as a platform to establish a CCP branch that promotes ideological education. Activities include political seminars before departure, online ideological discussions abroad, and fostering a mission of “serving the Party and the country.” Branch members explicitly promote CCP narratives and ideology as part of their mission, integrating political education into academic exchange programs.

Branches also engage in coordinated propaganda work. CAU’s International College, in partnership with UCD and OSU, directs its overseas branches to “tell the China (CCP) story” and requires political training for participating students. Activities have included organized campus events to view CCP political meetings. While U.S. universities state they do not track students’ political affiliations, the investigation exposes a lack of transparency and oversight, raising serious concerns about covert CCP influence in American higher education and the need for closer scrutiny of foreign academic programs.

Kazakhstan Invites China to Use Its Railways, Bypassing Russia

Shanghai-based online news outlet Guancha reported that Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy said in a recent interview that the country is actively advancing economic transformation and working to reduce its reliance on oil. China has now replaced Russia as Kazakhstan’s largest trading partner.

As Kazakhstan pushes forward with plans to build new railways and establish a transportation corridor linking its eastern and western regions, cargo traffic from China is expected to grow sharply. Freight volume along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (the “Middle Corridor”), which bypasses Russia, is projected to rise from the current 4.5 million tons to between 7 million and 10 million tons in the coming years.

The Middle Corridor, which integrates rail, road, and sea transport, connects China, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan before reaching Europe via the Black Sea. It is considered the shortest multimodal trade route between China and Europe, significantly reducing transport times. In July, China and Kazakhstan signed a strategic agreement to jointly develop this route.

Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Economy projects GDP growth of 6 percent this year. Meanwhile, International Monetary Fund forecasts show Kazakhstan’s per capita GDP will climb to US$14,770 in 2025, surpassing Russia’s US$14,260 and ranking first among former Soviet republics.

Liberty Times Network: China Sanctions U.S. Defense Firms Over Arms Sales to Taiwan

Taiwan’s Liberty Times Network (LTN) reported that the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced on September 25 that, citing national security concerns and obligations such as non-proliferation, it has placed three U.S. companies – Huntington Ingalls Industries, Planate Management Group, and Global Dimensions LLC – on its export control list, prohibiting the export of dual-use (civilian and military) items to them.

The Ministry also added Saronic Technologies, Aerkomm, and Oceaneering International to its “unreliable entities” list, barring them from import and export activities with China and from making new investments in the country.

According to the announcement, these firms “ignored China’s strong opposition,” and engaged in arms sales and military technology cooperation with Taiwan, “seriously undermining China’s sovereignty, security, and development interests.”

Huntington Ingalls Industries is the largest military shipbuilder in the U.S. Saronic Technologies develops maritime drones for defense use, while Global Dimensions, which has a branch in Taiwan, has reportedly been in discussions with Taipei about a military training program.

Xinhua: Kim Jong-un Willing to Engage with U.S. if It Abandons Denuclearization Demand

Xinhua News Agency reported that, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the 13th Session of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly of North Korea was held in Pyongyang on September 20–21. At the meeting, Kim Jong-un stated that if the United States abandons its insistence on North Korea’s denuclearization, acknowledges reality, and genuinely seeks peaceful coexistence, Pyongyang would have no reason to refuse face-to-face talks with Washington. However, Kim stressed that North Korea would never give up its nuclear weapons.

He further said that although the new U.S. and South Korean governments are open to dialogue and seek to improve relations, their fundamental aim to weaken North Korea’s power and overthrow its system will never change. Kim emphasized that relying on strong power to ensure security and preserve peace remains North Korea’s unchanging choice.

In his speech, Kim also noted that he still holds “good memories” of former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Regarding inter-Korean relations, Kim declared that North Korea “will neither sit down face-to-face with South Korea nor work together on anything.”

Turkish Ambassador Meets Hu Jintao’s Son

On September 23, the Turkish Embassy in China announced on its official Weibo, X, and Facebook accounts that Ambassador Selçuk Ünal paid a courtesy visit to Hu Haifeng, Vice Minister of China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs. According to the statement, the two sides exchanged views on enhancing bilateral cooperation. The posts included photos showing Ambassador Ünal visiting Hu’s office and presenting him with a gift.

Hu Haifeng is the son of former Chinese leader Hu Jintao.

Public records indicate that Ünal only recently assumed his post, having presented a copy of his credentials to China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on August 1.

Analysts observed that the visit was unusual, as Hu Haifeng is the fourth-ranking vice minister of a department with no direct connection to diplomacy. They suggested the move was more symbolic and aimed at Hu Jintao.
